5 Newborn Hacks You Wish You Knew

The newborn stage is full of new experiences and lessons in parenting. You’ll learn something new every day, and know that you can never be totally prepared - every child is different!

With that in mind, there are a few hacks that will make your life easier in the early weeks with your baby. We’ve shared some of our favorite hacks to make your transition into motherhood that little bit smoother.

Here are 5 newborn hacks you wish you knew, and that you’ll be glad you do if you’re expecting your first baby!

1. Zip-up pajamas

Zip-up pajamas are going to make your life so much easier during those first few weeks. When your baby spits up or pees on their pajamas in the middle of the night, the last thing you’re going to want to do is fuss around with snap fasteners…

2. Pull the clothes down

You know how the fabric overlaps on the shoulders of your baby’s sleepsuits and one-pieces? There’s a reason for that, and you’re not going to believe it. Especially if you’ve already passed the newborn stage without this knowledge…

Baby clothes are designed this way so that you can open up the neck and shoulders wide enough to pull the clothing down instead of over the head! Who knew, hey? This will make things a whole lot cleaner when removing poop, vomit, and food-covered clothes (when weaning arrives)..

3. Use your nursing pillow

Whether breastfeeding or not, nursing pillows are like new-mama gold. Not only do they support your baby during feeding - which will give your shoulders a much-needed rest. But they also double up as the perfect shaped pillow for you to take a nap.

Simply lay your head in the center and let the sides snuggle you to sleep. You can thank us later.

4. Multi-purpose pacifiers

Pacifiers serve a greater purpose than simply giving your baby comfort. Simply cut a tiny hole in the top of one pacifier and you’ve got a teether/medicine dispenser!

If your baby needs to take medicine, simply use a syringe to fill a pacifier with the medicine before giving it to your baby. This will make the process much easier. Make sure that you save this pacifier for medicine-purposes only so as not to get mixed up.

When teething arrives - which, unfortunately, it will - here’s a pacifier hack that will save your little one a lot of discomfort:

Using the same process as before, fill a pacifier with breast milk before placing it in the freezer. Once frozen, give it to your baby to help them soothe their sore gums. They’ll love it!

5. The kitchen sink is your new best friend

The kitchen sink is your new best friend. And don’t worry, it’s nothing to do with the dishes. Your kitchen sink is the perfect height to double up as a baby bath! Leaning over your baby bath postpartum can be incredibly uncomfortable - but with your new sink-bath, you won’t have this problem!
